Empowering Access to Justice

Our Journey

The Beginning in a Legal Desert
Stacey M. Lake, our founder, grew up in Victorville, California—a region often referred to as a legal desert due to its limited access to legal resources. In 2006, Stacey began her career working in a small family law firm, where she witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking struggles of individuals facing domestic violence and divorce. Many of these individuals were turned away because they couldn’t afford an attorney, leaving them without the legal support they desperately needed.
2006
The Birth of Lawfecta
After years of working in small law firms as a Paralegal, Stacey launched Lawfecta in 2017. Lawfecta was created to provide virtual paralegal and legal secretary support to law firms, helping them reduce overhead costs and, more importantly, enabling them to serve demographics that were previously underserved due to financial constraints.
2017
Launching LawWurk During the Pandemic
As the world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for affordable legal support became even more critical. Many individuals found themselves unemployed or financially impacted, unable to afford traditional legal services. Recognizing this urgent need, Stacey launched LawWurk—a platform designed to connect the public with Allied Legal Professionals and educate them about justice tech platforms.
2020
Recognition on a National Stage
Stacey’s innovative approach to democratizing legal services through technology gained national attention when she presented at the American Bar Association’s TechShow Startup Alley Pitch Competition in 2021. This milestone highlighted the importance of legal tech in transforming the industry and making justice more accessible to all.
2021
Launching Justice Tech Pathways
In 2024, Stacey founded Justice Tech Pathways, a nonprofit dedicated to upskilling paralegals and paraprofessionals in legal technology. This initiative aims to empower legal professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to implement cost-effective tech solutions, ultimately expanding access to justice for underserved communities.
2024
Our Mission Continues
From the legal deserts of Victorville to the forefront of legal technology innovation, our journey is driven by a singular mission: to democratize legal services and empower those who serve. Justice Tech Pathways is the culmination of years of experience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to the legal support they need, regardless of their circumstances.
